About Maryanne
Maryanne Arena is the founder, President, and CEO of MaryLand – A Haven for Horses.
Maryanne Arena grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and always dreamed of owning a horse. In 1982 she purchased her first farm in Saratoga County, NY, where she had three horses. She also ran the mounted horse program for Saratoga National Battlefield in Saratoga. Maryanne would go on to pursue careers in theatre and teaching which lead her to move to and purchase a farm in LeRoy, NY.
Maryanne has been providing a safe and nurturing life for horses since 2011. It was about this time that she acquired EACH MILE A MEMORY, her first Standardbred racehorse, and she learned what happens to horses after their racing careers end. She decided the only responsible thing to do was to honor him, and others like him, by providing a comfortable place for them to retire and so began adopting other horses that needed sanctuary.
In 2021, Maryanne dedicated her farm, MaryLand – A Haven for Horses, as a retirement sanctuary for retired Standardbred racehorses and it is the home to 10 very happy horses.
